AMBO consists of three main elements, which run sequentially; first, a TV Reality show that picks a winner from group of aspiring ‘uknowns’; second a film that stars this winner in a lead role, and third, Road Shows that provide viewing experiences of the film for the esteemed Amstel Malta consumers across the country.
The first element took place in November 2005, Over 10,000 applicants across the country were screened to arrive at the final ten which entered the AMBO House. For 21 days, they thrilled and entertained us with their varying exhibitions of acting talents, but only one person, Sadiq Azizat, was good enough to win our hearts and 1the first prize of N2.5m as well as a starring role in the AMBO block-buster movie.
The movie entitled Sitanda, is completely Nollywood; written; produced and directed by Nollywood professionals.
It features the AMBO reality Show winner Azizat Sadiq, alongside Nollywood mega stars Stephanie Okereke, Iretiola Doyle, Bimbo Manuel, Justis Esiri and Ali Nuhu.
Sitanda celebrates resilience and self belief in the pursuit of one’s dreams and aspiration. It is a movie that tells the heart-wrenching tale of a lady’s struggle to salvage her marriage as she takes and unexpected journey into the past.
The second edition of AMBO took place in November 2006 and again over 20,000 applicants nationwide were interviewed to arrive at a top twenty. Then at a star studded opening event held at the federal palace hotels in Victoria Island the top ten were selected. They again lived together in the AMBO house for 21 days and OC Ukejeemerged winner and his blockbuster movie White Waters premiered in November 2007 with great reviews. The movie starred Rita Dominic, Joke Silva and Jibril Hoomsuk amongst others. White Waters bagged 4 awards at the 2008 African Movie Academy Awards with OC Ukeje as best upcoming actor which indeed was true to Amstel Malta producing young stars.
The third edition took place in November 2007 and after the reality tv show, Bhaira McWizu emerged as the winner out of over 9,000 applicants. Her movie will debut this year.
