Afromedia PLC which came into being and became autonomous on the 28th day of October 1959 is Nigeria’s leading supplier of Out-of-Home media services to the industry. Originally Afromedia was a small service arm of West Africa Publicity (WAP), the latter itself was incorporated in 1928 as part of the parent United Africa Company Limited (UACL).

However, in 1959, and to meet the requirements of international convention which did not permit a single organisation to run both agency services and media contracting services, two companies were formed by the parent UAC conglomerate. The companies were namely: Afromedia Nigeria Limited to handle outdoor services, and Lintas Limited to handle agency work. Both were run as two independent members of the UACL Group.

Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria

The idea to establish the Association of Agencies of Nigeria by Oloye Dotun Okubanjo started in 1970, after consultations with fellows of like minds, the maiden formal meeting took place in June, 1971 under the Chairmanship of the then Mr. Dotun Okubanjo.

Those who were also at the meeting were Leye Adedoyin,  Biodun Sanwo,  Late Chief Olu Adekoya and Late Banjo Solaru.  This meeting took some far-reaching decisions, which included a decision to intimate various ministries and government agencies of the coming into being of the association.  At that meeting, it was agreed that when reference is made to Advertising Agencies, it should be taken to mean all organizations with facilities for originating creative advertising and media planning services.

Pomat Peters Nigeria Limited started the business of marketing of Screen-printing materials like inks, poster papers and allied chemicals under the name of Pomat Progressive Trading Company in 1978.

In 1979, another business outfit “ Collection Agency” was added to the existing business. In that same year, the Company began a full-scale business of contracting and screen process printing. In 1986, the business was registered as POMAT PETERS NIGERIA COMPANY involved in the production of stickers, handbills, banners, posters and other screen-printed materials. By the end of 1986, the Company acquired an acre of land at Abule-egba, under State, where the company’s factory is situated. The company was registered in 1989 as a Private Limited Liability Company – POMAT PETERS NIGERIA LIMITED under the Companies Act of 1968.
