NO FEWER than 3,000 students from Ilaje and Ese Odo Local Government areas of Ondo State will benefit from N130million Scholarship and Bursary awards of the State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, OSOPADEC.

Chairman of the Commission Debo Ajimuda, said in Akure weekend that Governor Segun Mimiko had approved the take off of this year’s edition of the scheme.

According to him, “It is a fact that in fulfillment of its promise to give education the deserved priority attention, the state government has within two and a half years in office reviewed the amount being paid to the students three times.

He said the government had increased from “N12, 000 to N25, 000 and now each student will go home with N40, 000. This is unprecedented in the 35 years of existence of our state. The OSOPADEC Scholarship/Bursary Scheme is devoid of any form of discrimination because the Commission gives out Scholarship/Bursary to all qualified students no matter the level of study.”

Students from about 52 tertiary institutions are benefiting from this edition and we have Post Graduate and Law School students among them.”

According to him, the engagement of youths in the riverine areas since 2009 especially under the Volunteer Scheme introduced by the state Government as well as the Niger Delta Development Commission’s Skill Acquisition Scheme had reduced violent crimes in the state, making Ondo the most peaceful among the states in the Niger Delta region.
