lagosstatepolyVision Statement of the polytechnic

To be the foremost polytechnic in Nigeria and a prime contributor to industrialization by producing skilled, innovative and employable, self sustaining manpower in Applied science, Engineering, Technology and Management.

Mission Statement of the polytechnic

To produce skilled and practical-oriented middle and high level manpower for commerce and industry and sustain a position of excellence through the use of competent personnel and adequate facilities.

Shared Values of the polytechnic

The shared values of the Polytechnic are professionalism and excellence, commitment, dedication and loyalty, integrity and accountability, knowledge sharing respect for the rule of law, effective communication, fairness and equity: The nature of training received from LASPOTECH is geared towards equipping the products with readily employable skills so that they can fit into industry and commerce easily, and also that they too can create employment for others.

Student’s population

The Polytechnic commenced academic activities in 1978 with the admission of 287 students. Over the years, the students’ population had increased astronomically to 30,000. The breakdown of the Polytechnic students’ population for four academic session is as show below:

History of The polytechnic

In 1975, the State Government decided to approve the establishment of a College of Science and Technology as the first State owned tertiary institution.  The State Edict No 1 of 1978 effective from 1st June, 1977 gave the college its legal existence.  In January 1978, classes commenced at a temporary site, now the Isolo Campus of the Institution.  In 1986, the State Government changed the name of the Institution from the State College of Science and Technology to the .

The Polytechnic is concluding efforts to move from its hitherto Multi Campus nature to a monocampus Institution.  Sequel to the movement of the seat of Administration to the Ikorodu permanent Campus, the Polytechnic was operating a multi-campus system with four campuses namely, Ikorodu, Ikosi, Isolo and Surulere, all located within Lagos metropolis.  With effect from May 2000, the Ikorodu Campus took over from the Isolo Campus as the seat of administration of the Polytechnic and the Permanent Campus of the Institution.

Since the giant step was taken in year 2000 the institution has moved virtually all its and Departments, while plans are also at advanced stages to move the few remaining Departments and to the Ikorodu Campus in the nearest future.  It is pertinent to note that the Polytechnic will still retain the Isolo Campus as the School of Part Time Studies, in view of its proximity to the major clientele for the programme, who are largely situated in the Lagos metropolis.

The 2004/2005 Academic Session saw the establishment of the School of Part Time Studies (Day) at the Surulere Campus which hitherto was the School of Environmental Studies of the Polytechnic.  The Ikorodu Permanent Campus situated along the Sagamu Road has an expanse of over 400 hectares of land, a large percentage of which is yet to be developed.

A beautiful, serene and conducive environment for teaching and learning with no doubt.  The overall quality of the Polytechnic has rated the institution as the best State owned Polytechnic in Nigeria, and the Polytechnic of excellence, from the various assessment processes it had undergone.

Its record as a research institution of National and International repute is acknowledged by government, international agencies, industry and other stake holders.  However, far from resting on its oars, the Polytechnic is determined to consolidate its position on the National and International stage.

Collaboration:

The Polytechnic has an External Relations Committee which explores available opportunities locally, nationally and internationally to the advantages of the Institution. It also liaises with corporate bodies and organizations with a view to establishing mutually benefiting relationships especially in the areas of Research and exchange collaborations.

The Polytechnic has special links with a number of International bodies and countries, including the State of Israel. Members of Staff through the Israel Embassy had embarked on training programmes, Research and workshop programmes in the state of Israel in the past four years.

Furthermore, the Polytechnic enjoys a cordial relationship with the European Economic Community (EEC). The relationship had in the past led to the actualization of various EEC/ATIP assisted projects in LASPOTECH.

These included the Construction of two number boreholes and the training of over eight staff members of the Polytechnic in Netherlands.

The Polytechnic is also a member of the Commonwealth Association of Polytechnic in Africa (CAPA) and a member of the African Network of Scientific and Technological Institutions (ANSTI). Other areas of linkages are being strengthened especially with the French Government.

ABDUL-GUSAU POLYTECHNIC ,TALATA MATARA.

Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara has a long standing history. Its origin dates back to the emergence of staff training centre, Sokoto in 1956 which was eventually renamed Staff Development Centre, Sokoto in 1972.

It is the staff development centre that was later amalgamated with community development institute, Birnin Kebbi and home economics centre, Gusau,to constitute an arm called Administration Sokoto which formed part of the then Polytechnic of Sokoto State, Birnin Kebbi in 1980.

The geographical division in the country in 1991 saw the creation of the Kebbi State from the former Sokoto State. With the former Sokoto State Polytechnic leadership of Col. Bashir Salihi Magashi thought it desirable to establish its own polytechnic at Talata Mafara to take advantage of the existing structure meant for a Technical College already there.Still the College of Administration Farafaru remained an integral part of the proposed Polytechnic and served as the temporary site.

The Government of Sokoto State renamed the institution as Abdu Gusau Polytechnic after the late Engineer who died in November 1994. In October 1996 the Federal Government created Zamfara State out of the then Sokoto State, a situation necessitated the hurried relocation of the institution to its partially completed permanent site as it was possible legally for Zamfara State to continue to sustain an institution belonging to it but located within Sokoto State.
