Federal Polytechnic Ilaro commenced academic activities in November 1979. It is an institution whose founding fathers founded on the core values of excellence, integrity and positive interaction within a competitive global world space.
The institution is located in the serene town of Ilaro and the institution generates within the environment, an atmosphere conducive for intense and productive academic work. This has made it possible to produce a staff and student population that is focused and has over the years built a tradition of commitment to purpose and pursuits for the good of self, nation and humankind.
The institution has 4 Schools and 18 academic Departments, and has over 8 ,400 students currently enrolled in study programmes in the polytechnic. The institution believes in remoulding her students through a commitment to high academic standards in order to fit them for competition in the national and international work environment as skilled and accomplished professionals in fields of human endeavour.
The Institution has a good rapport with monitoring agencies through compliance with guidelines and directives and thereby assures her products of relevance after graduation. Additionally the institution believes in timely realisation of institutional goals and objectives and strives to protect the integrity of her academic calendar in order to ensure delivery of academic qualification to her graduates in their chosen fields within a reasonable time period.
As an institution, her students maintain relationship with students in other institutions through active participation in national and international events such as the Nigerian Polytechnic Games (NIPOGA), the West African Polytechnic Games (WAPOGA); academic conferences, meets etc.
