Kwara State College of Education (Technical) Lafiagi was established by the civilian Government of Kwara State through a bill passed into law by the Kwara State House of Assembly on the 13th day of September, 1993.

Since the takes off the College and the appointment of the first Provost, Dr. (Mrs.) Comfort E. Adu, in 1993, there have been two other substantive Provost and two acting provosts, presiding over the affairs of the College up to July 2001. The appointment of Engr. Dr. Mohammed G.

Yissa as the 4th substantive Provost in August 2001, ensured a smooth transition from what had hitherto been a posting of ministry officials to the College, to appointment through competitive interview in line with the provision of the law establishing the College. At the expiration of his tenure on July, 31st 2005, Deacon D.O. Bankole was appointed the acting provost.

On the 1st of June 2006, the Kwara State Government appointed the current substantive Provost in person of Dr. Z.S. Abbas. His advent ushered in tremendous development that has never been witnessed since the inception of the College. For instance the students enrolment at the 100 level, which usually hovers around 500 to 600, jumped to 1,114 in 2006/2007 session. Through the ETF intervention the moribound tractor was rehabilitated, a 250KVA generator was purchased and a 30 Sitter executive bus was procured. An office complex through the same intervention is nearing completion. A face lift was given to the College environment. The overgrown bushes around the Colleges have been mowed down while the students Hostel and some staff quarters have been renovated by the Kwara State Government’s intervention. The development witnessed during its tenure is unprecedented in the anal of the College. The total population of the students is almost 5000.

Administratively, the college is structured into five departments in accordance with the schedule obtainable in other similar institutions nationwide. These include the Registry, Bursary, Works, Library, and the Offices of the Provost, which is at the apex of the strata.

Similarly, the academic section of the College is divided into four schools namely. The Schools of Education, Science, Technology and Vocation, each headed by a Dean.
The First matriculation ceremony for the pioneering Students was held on 28th April, 1994 with 85 promising future teachers / leaders of Nigeria partaking. As a corollary to this the College produced its first set of graduates in 1996. Since then, eight other sets have graduated from the college bringing the total graduate output to over 3500.
