2010/2011 May/June Results Released
The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the May/June 2010 National Business Certificate (NBC)/National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations with a call for more technical colleges to be established.

NABTEB said that absence of technical colleges is a threat to Nigeria’s industrial and physical development and urged that priority attention should be given to the recruitment, training and retraining of qualified Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) personnel.

Acting Registrar/Chief Executive of NABTEB, Dr. Olatunde Aworanti who stated this at a press conference in Benin City to announce the result of the May/June, called on Christian and Muslim missions to establish Vocational and Technical Schools to engage youths and reduce the alarming crime rate.

According to Dr. Aworanti, out of the 63,612 candidates that sat for the examinations, 20,554 (32.31%) had five credits including English Language and Mathematics, adding that the overall results recorded a decrease of 4.15% failure rate against the previous year.

“In Education Education, out of the 61,775 candidates who sat for English Language, 33,918 (54.9%) passed at Credit level and above.

“In Mathematics, out of the 61,846 candidates who sat for the examination, 33,682 (54.5%) passed at Credit level and above. Literature-in-English recorded the highest failure rate of 41.85% in General Education subjects.

“In Engineering Trades, while Vehicle Body Building recorded the best performance, candidates performed poorly in Marine Engineering Craft and Foundry Craft Practice.

“In Business Trades, the candidates performed creditably well in Commerce, Office Practice and Salesmanship”.

The examination was conducted in 861 centres across the country as against 697 centres in 2009 (an increase of 24%), according to Dr. Aworanti.

He said a total of 63,612 candidates enrolled for the examinations representing an increase of 32.41% over the 2009 enrolment of 48,042 candidates.
