National Directorate was established by the National Directorate of Employment Act1989. Its organs are the Director-general (sections 6 to 8), the Board (section 3), the National Advisory Council (section 4) and the State Advisory Committees (section 5). The objectives of the Directorate are not directly aimed at women, but can serve women’s interests. According to s. 2, they must be to:

  1. design and implement programmes to combat mass unemployment;

  2. articulate policies aimed at developing work programmes with labour intensive potential;

  3. obtain and maintain a data bank on employment and vacancies in the country with a view to acting as a clearing house to link job seekers with vacancies in collaboration with other government agencies; and

  4. implement any other policy as may be laid down, from time to time, by the Board.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thanks for your supportive roles in ensuring a better Nigeria society.

Miss Margaret E. UMOH, now Mrs. William-Akinsanya Margaret Ima-Obong, having heard an information, sometime in the year 2000, that the then government of Oyo (under the directive of the Federal Government of Nigeria) organised an NDE tainning for the youths and she applied and was selected as a trainee. She had the training for two years between 2000 and 2002 where she studied Fashion Designing at one of your NDE centre at Ashi-Bodija in Ibadan under Mr. & Mrs. Albert Makanjuola (CHANNABERTO FASHION DESIGNER).

We have, since last year, been contacting NDE office Abuja for her CERTIFICATE after the fire-burnt of the formal. but all these posted abortive results.

Can we be helped by your good office as requires it for a further studies,

Very truly yours,

Mrs. William-Akinsanya M.I.

Pls how can we link our school to skill program meant for young but poor school leavers to your soft loan program. This will enable some of them set up and expand thier business and become employers. There are so many south easterners who are yearning to participate in one or two skills acqusition programme today. I am sure if you key into our school to skill program or after school skills acquisition, the impact will be faster and sure. We link in-school pupils to nearby artisans with basic equipments for training.

Establishing NDE is a wise step in combating mass unemployment. But i think the the pay is not encouraging. I suggest federal gov’t should do something positive about it. Thanks
