Nigerian soldiers open fire on youths; 2 killed

JOS, Nigeria (AP) — Soldiers opened fire on a crowd after curfew and killed two people, witnesses said Wednesday, just days after more than 200 people including dozens of children were slaughtered in several mostly Christian villages nearby.
Hundreds of people swarmed the streets of Jos on Wednesday morning, where one truck’s windshield was a spider web of bullet holes with the word “rejoice” scrawled on it.

Nigerians demand end to “invisible presidency”

ABUJA – Thousands of Nigerians marched to the gates of the presidential villa on Wednesday to demand an end to the presidency of ailing leader Umaru Yar’Adua so Acting President Goodluck Jonathan can take over as head of state.

The dilemma of Reps as Yar’Adua vanishes to become an “oracle”

Since President Umaru Yar’Adua was sneaked out from the country for medical treatment on the 23rd of November last year, and “smuggled” back penultimate Wednesday night, his handlers have made him look like an oracle.
They, in turn, have assumed the positions High Priests through which he passes his esoteric messages to his confounded people.

The return of Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua three months after he left for a Saudi hospital might normally have beeen seen as a sign that a long spell of debilitating uncertainty was over.

Take decisive actions now, Danjuma tells Jonathan

The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Council, Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), on Thursday said Nigeria required change and therefore challenged Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan, to take ‘quick and aggressive’ actions in order to save the nation.
Danjuma spoke while responding to the Acting President‘s address at the inauguration of the newly constituted Presidential Advisory Council in the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja.
