PTDF Nigeria may scrap overseas scholarship scheme in 2013

THE Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Mallam Muttaqua Rabe Darma, has announced plans by the Fund to end its popular Overseas Scholarship Scheme (OSS) by the year 2013.

Darma, who made the announcement on Friday in a chat with journalists at the end of the Fund’s maiden ‘Catch Them Young’ Quiz/Debate Competition for Secondary Schools in the country, explained that the decision was prompted by the Fund’s desire to harness potentials of local universities for training of students in petroleum technology_related courses.

No fewer than 16 fuel trucks were burnt yesterday in a fire incident that occurred at the truck park along Orile-Ijora Road, Lagos. According to eye witnesses, the incident started at about 2 p.m., but no life was lost in the inferno. At press time, the cause of the inferno was yet to be ascertained.

LAGOS—TOP Nigerian tycoon and Group Managing Director of NICON Group and Global Fleet, Chief Jimoh Ibrahim, weekend, bought over Virgin Nigeria Airline, the nation’s official carrier. Ibrahim, during an interactive session with select journalists in his Energy House, Broad Street, Lagos office, said the acquisition of Virgin Nigeria Airline followed the successful negotiation and eventual take-over of the airline on Friday, a process which started last year.
