Jonathan picks Namadi Sambo as Vice President
Kaduna State Governor, Architect Namadi Sambo is the Vice President-designate of Federal Republic of Nigeria. The Vice President was appointed by President Goodluck Jonathan pending the confirmation of the National Assembly.
An architect by training, Sambo is an alumnus of the Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria
Also there are unconfirmed reports that former Governor of Delta State Chief James Ibori has been arrested in Dubai.
Breaking News: Nigerian leader Umaru Yar’Adua dead
Nigerian president Umaru Yar’Adua has died, his office confirmed late on Wednesday.
“It is true that the president is dead,” an official at the office said.
Presidential spokesman Olusegun Adeniyi said Yar’Adua had been ill for a long time and he had died at 9pm on Wednesday (0600 AEST, Thursday) at the Aso Rock presidential villa.
Nigerian President Umaru Yar’Adua is dead
Nigeria’s president Umaru Yar’Adua has died at the age of 58 after a long illness, his office has said.
An official confirmed the leader’s death following initial reports on the country’s private television channel Silverbird.
Presidential spokesman Olusegun Adeniyi said Mr Yar’Adua passedat 8pm GMT at the Aso Rock presidential villa in Lagos.
Vice president Goodluck Jonathan had already assumed the presidency February 9.

INEC Boss – Prof Maurice Iwu Sacked, passport seized
Acting President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday directed the Chairman of the Independent National Commission, Prof. Maurice Iwu, to proceed on a pre-disengagement leave.
The directive to Iwu, whose passport is believed to have been seized by the State Security Service, takes immediate effect.

Jonathan warns new ministers to either Perform or get sacked
Acting President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, inaugurated a 38-man Executive Council of the Federation (EXCOF) with a charge that they perform or get kicked out of government.
Speaking during the inauguration at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Jonathan, who will personally take charge as the minister of power, reminded that, the need to deliver dividends of democracy to the people should be paramount on their minds, so that the dream of the nation’s founding fathers would not be in vain.
