KANO – The first civilian Governor of Kano state, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammadu Rimi died of cardiac arrest last night after running into an armed robbery operation along Darki- Gadar Jana 50 kim north of Kano city, declared the police.

Senators Confirm Akunyili and Tapgun
Two ministerial nominees — Prof. Dora Akunyili and Ms Josephine Tapgun — narrowly escaped being rejected by the Senate as members of the new Federal Executive Council.
Akunyili, whose name was the third read by the President of the Senate, Mr. David Mark, almost lost out when the voice vote appeared to show that the senators who supported or opposed her nomination were equal in number.
Governor Peter Obi dissolves cabinet
Anambra State Governor Peter Obi on Tuesday sacked all his commissioners but renominated them on Wednesday for screening by the House of Assembly.
The Secretray to the State Government, Mr. Paul Odenigbo, forwarded the list of the commissioner nominees to the Speaker of the Assembly, Mr. Anayo Nebe, a few hours after news that Ikemba Nnewi, Chief Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, had lost another of his wives, Njideka, was made public.
Senate ready to amend 1999 Constitution today
The Senate will on Thursday (today) take its final votes on the amendments to the 1999 Constitution.
The decision would have been taken on Wednesday but for the discovery that proposed amendments to Section 109 were not included in the documents which were circulated among senators.
A record 97 out of the 109 senators began the amendment of 36 clauses of the 1999 Constitution.
Anenih and Daggash makes top 25-man cabinet list
A LIST of 25 ministerial nominees was, yesterday, delivered to the President of the Senate, Senator David Mark.
The list which includes seven from the just dissolved cabinet was delivered by Special Assistant to the President, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, according to normally reliable sources in the National Assembly. It includes 18 new ministerial nominees.
