Tiger Woods makes a comeback at U.S. Masters

The world number one has not competed since his victory at the Australian Masters on November 15 and has opted to make his comeback at Augusta National where he won the first of his 14 majors in 1997.

“I view this tournament with great respect,” Woods, 34, said in a statement on Tuesday. “After a long and necessary time away from the game, I feel like I’m ready to start my season at Augusta.”

Didier Drogba has been crowned African Footballer of the Year for the second time in his career.

The Chelsea striker, who also won the award in 2006, was selected ahead of fellow Chelsea player Michael Essien of Ghana and Cameroon forward Samuel Eto’o.

Drogba won the award on his 32nd birthday, but he was not present to pick up the gong. Emmanuel Adebayor won the award last year.

Nigerian striker Endurance Idahor dies

Nigerian-born forward Endurance Idahor was rushed to hospital after a challenge from a fellow player left him on his back and unable to breathe, during Saturday’s Sudanese Premier League match-up between El-Merriekh and Al-Amal

Despite the teams’ best efforts to see that the striker was given treatment as quickly as possible, the 23-year-old is said to have passed away inside the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
