If you are looking for business ideas to start something that will help you make a living, then I think going online may be an option for you if you are not having enough money to start an offline business which will cost a lot.

However, if you do have the money to spare for offline business, there are several business ideas available that you may consider.

My focus in this article is to give you 8 business ideas you may consider if you want to start an online business. Take note that there may be other areas I do not mention because I do not have good information on how they work or haven’t tried. But the ones I’m listing below are some of the areas I have practiced and have seen others succeeded doing them.

CPA Marketing

CPA stand for Cost Per Action. It is an affiliate marketing model designed to attract customers so as to sell to them at the back end of a business. To do CPA marketing, you need to register and get approved with a CPA network, select the type of offer you want to promote and drive traffic to the offer.

In CPA marketing, you are paid when a prospects performs an action, such as entering their email address, zip code, or their credit card details to try a product for free. These prospects do not need to buy the products before you are paid, that is why CPA marketing is one of the best and easiest affiliate marketing models.

Web Hosting Services

You may decide to start a web hosting services business registering domain names, and hosting people’s websites. To start, you will need a small capital to buy reseller hosting from hosting companies. Most of these packages come with a free domain name and hosting account so you can use it to design a website to sell the hosting packages.

Once a client orders a hosting package, you just pay for a domain name registration and make a profit on it. To make more money with this type of online business, you need to keep record of all your customers and follow up with them so that you can sell other  related products to them like, a course on how to drive website visitors to the new website; a software for designing website, an autoresponder for managing email subscription for website visitors. Doing this will help you to make  money online per customer.

Information Publishing

Most Internet marketers fall into this category. An information publisher is someone who can create information products and also knows how to employ the power of the internet to sell his products. The information business is one of the most lucrative marketing models.

Info-products come in various formats; e-books, audios, videos, memberships, webinars, seminars, teleseminars, and physical workshops. All are various ways an information publisher packages his information and sells. I’m a good example of an information publisher because that is the business model I have more leverage on.

Online Real Estate

This is another area that only few people are doing and I plan to move into this market soon. It can be very lucrative, but you will need a physical offline office to make it very corporate and credible.

If you can get a programmer to design a website that people looking for different type of accomodation can logon and search for them with their prices and pictures, then you connect these people with the landlords and collect an agency fee once a deal is closed.

To make more money, you can charge each landlord small fee to list their property on your website for rent or lease, and when a prospect is interested, he calls you and the deal is closed.

SMS Reseller Services

There are a lot of agencies in town offering people SMS reseller opportunities. These agencies sell mobile SMS (short message service) in bulk to clients and organisations. Now the interesting thing is most of them are looking for resellers, and they have a provision where you can order a unique website from them and use it to start bulk SMS to people.

For instance, you can buy sms from them for N1.5k and resell to your clients at N3 per SMS making a 50% profit per SMS sold. Now you may thing that N1.5k is too small a profit. Imagine getting 10 organisations like schools or churches who orders a minimum 1,000 bulk SMS from you per week, that amounts to N1.5k x 1000 x 10 = N15,000 weekly. So in a month, you will be cashing an extra N60,000. In fact, I know of people who make nearly N100,000 monthly reselling bulk SMS. Get more clients and increase your income.

Website/ Flipping

If you know how to make content websites or blogs optimised with Google Adsense and also know how to write keyword optimised articles using Search engine optimisation skills for higher website ranking and visibility, you can make a lot of money flipping the websites for more profits.

I have seen people who are experts at website flipping, and most times, they create a website or blog, write good articles, include affiliate links for making a passive income, they wait for 3 months and once they see that these websites bring in some income like  $200 per month, they will list it for sale. Most people looking for passive income are ready to buy such websites for as much as $1,500 to $2000.

Repeat the process, before you know it, you can be making a steady income every month selling websites.

Freelance Article Writing

Article writers are highly sought online. If you are good at writing, there are a lot of networks online where you can register and post your resume. Webmasters and entrepreneurs who are looking for contents on their websites visit these networks and check out the profiles of these writers before contacting them for an article writing project.

Usually 400 words articles cost from $4 – $6 depending on the amount of articles a webmaster want you to write. If you have a computer at home, and you are a prolific writer who has no job, you may decide to take this route.

Website Development and Designs

Are you knowledgeable about web designs? Can you develop websites? Then is another lucrative business online. Sadly, most do not know how to get clients for web design jobs. The truth is, if you know how to market online, getting clients for projects is very easy.

Just design a marketing website. There’s difference between owning a website and owning a money making marketing website. A web designer needs to create an online marketing system, drive highly targeted traffic to it, pre-sell clients and get web design jobs. If you know how to put these things in place, then you will be flooded with many projects begging for completion.

The above are the simple small business ideas you may benefit yourself from. Pick one; run with it; once it becomes successful, you may add one or two more for more passive income.

Are there  that accept Nigerians residing in Nigeria as affiliates? The answer is yes, and it is verifiable. Where is the list of such programs?

Wait, why do you want a list of affiliate programs that accept Nigerians? What do you want to do with the list? I know my question sounds dumb and you are thinking, if he won’t give the list, then I better go to another site. Well, since you are here already and sparing an additional one minute won’t kill you, I want you to exercise patience. Listen to my ramblings, then I will give you the list that I have sent to several Nigerians that asked me (of course it is free, as in free air because you can equally get it elsewhere for free).

Why do you want a list of affiliate programs that accept Nigerians as affiliate? In my twelve months of interacting online as a Nigerian residing in Nigeria, I have come to understand that an average Nigerian who wants to make money online wants to start with the very first click of the mouse he makes online. He is not interested in all the teachings about building online assetsonline marketing and making a name online. If he gets persuaded to start a website, you can be rest assured that it will be full of Google adsense and several banner ads that will make the whole webpage look like an abstract paint-work. Yet he expects people to bring out their wallet and dish out dollars because he has been told that there is cheap money to be made online. I wish this were true, then I would have long being in Hawaii with my family and be blogging from the beach.

Of recent, I have been bombarded by Naija brothers and sisters who are asking for list of affiliate programs that accept Nigerians. Often times, out of concern I try to ask questions before giving out the list that I have. Their response is quite revealing as I discover that about 80% of them have been brainwashed into believing that working online is easy and requires little or no knowledge. Some have even being made to part with cash to buy some “online money making machines” which will lodge money into their accounts while they do nothing.

This is quite unfortunate. A list of affiliate programs will do you no good if you lack the knowledge required for achieving success as an online affiliate marketer. For example, not all affiliate programs is suitable for each individual. You need to pick the ones that are well aligned to your passion in life and you also need to ensure that the program is genuine and not a reap-off (it is possible to labor and earn next to nothing). All these points to the fact that you need to learn. Enough of the unsolicited advise, find below some affiliate programs you can start with (if you find them suitable), they all accept Nigerians.

Affiliate Programs For Nigerians Living In Nigeria

AlertPay – An alternative to PayPal
Bidvertiser – An advertising company
AdToll – An advertising company
BlogMastermind – An online marketing school for entrepreneurs
Blue Host – A hosting Company
GoDaddy – A domain and hosting Company
NairaHost NairaHost – A hosting Company
Commisssion Junction – A
NameCheap – A domain and hosting Company
PayPerPost – An advertising company
Text-Link-Ads -An advertising company

This list is quite small, I know, so I will start a thread in the forum so that a longer list of Affiliate Programs that accept Nigerians will be compiled. If you are a Nigerian reading this post and you know other affilitate programs that accept Nigerians, please share them in the comment section. Wishing all the Naija brothers and sisters success in your online venture. I am proudly Nigerian, see you at the top. Cheers.

Google Adwords has became a virtual cash-cow for those who have mastered the system. These web guru’s know a number one spot for a very competitive keyword or keyword phrase in Google will usually prove very lucrative, bringing in a steady automatic income, but getting number one spot in Google is not an easy task, however there are other ways of getting your website to appear on top of the list on google’s SERP (Search engine results page) as a sponsored listing through a program known as Google Adwords

Google Adwords unlike is not free. Google Adwords is simply a Google program. It is a or pay per impression program. This simply means that you will have ads on Google or their partner websites and whenever someone clicks on the ads, you pay your chosen bid usually starting from cents. An example of this ad can be seen when you make a search at Google, the sponsored links beside your search result is where you find the Google adwords. This program can be used to deliver a targeted based on keywords typed in by the users

How Can One make Money with Google Adsense: The idea here is to make money online through a combination of adwords and , once again, this can be done by anyone, whether in US, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, UK, South Africa, etc, as far as you have a website, access to internet and debit/credit card, then you can join and adsense and start making money

Affiliate programs are programs provided by companies which will pay you to advertise their products and in return you will earn a fixed commission when someone you referred make a sale, lead, impression or click to their site, such method is referred to as affiliate program and the act is called affiliate marketing, Now, there are companies that provides a link between you the publisher, and some big companies, the advertiser, these companies provides you with codes or links which you can place on your website, all you need to do is to run advertising campaigns with Google adwords, ie use Google adwords to promote these companies products and services, then earn money whenever there is sale, leads, clicks etc

Take for instance, “company X” mobile phones online, you can contact company X through any of these affiliate program companies such as commission junction, shareasale, Linkshare, etc, and start promoting their products using google adwords, whenever somebody that came through you buys a mobile phone, you earn a percentage, If you are using clickbank, you could earn up to 50% commission, the problem with clickbank is that they don’t accept Nigerians, so If you are a Nigerian and you wish to use Clickbank to promote your affiliate products, you may have to wait a little longer, Commision Junction, Linkshare, Shareasale all accept Nigerians, so if you are a Nigerian, you can start from there. Companies like Amazon, etc also offer affiliate programs which you can join and start making money

The generality of the people recognize Google as the web’s number search engine.  Google’s dominance on the internet cannot be over emphasised or argued, it is a statement of fact and everybody knows that but what a lot of people do not know is that Google has positioned itself as a key revenue source for most webmasters and internet marketers.

Just recently, I was reading this post: “What if Google Closed today?” in one of the online forums. A lot of people that replied to that post did so with respect to the role of Google in online business, that was when I realised how important Google has become not just in our normal day to day activities but in our business environment as well.

There are basically two major ways of with Google. The first one is through Google Adsense. The other is through Google Adwords. Google Adsense and Google Adwords are two important products owned by Google and you can make make money through any of them.

I will briefly discuss Google adsense so you can have an insight on what they are all about and also learn through Google. I will discuss adwords in more details in my subsequent posts

Google Adsense: AdSense is simply an ad serving application run by Google Inc. It offers website owners the opportunity to enroll and enable text, image, and video advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis, You can learn more about Google Adsense here, You can also sign up for Google adsense here

The good thing about Google adsense is that it is truly Global, whether you are in Nigeria, USA, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Lagos, Enugu, Portharcourt, Abuja, UK, you can use google adsense and you can target businesses and visitors from any parts of the world

How Does Google Adsense work?: A lot of people have asked me this question so I have decided to use this opportunity to clarify and provide a greater insight on this program called Adsense, Adsense is one of Google’s programs. As already mentioned before, another one of Google’s programs is known as Google Adwords which is the source of the ads used for the Adsense program.

Google Adwords users would pay money to run these ads as or pay per impression so that they themselves can generate money by sending people to their websites and earn through sales and subscriptions.

Website owners known as publishers can sign up with Google Adsense free of cost and get to place these ads on their websites. When an ad is clicked on, Google will pay the publisher about half of what the Adwords advertiser is paying to run the ad. Google gets the other half. Very simple and very easy. If you still do not understand, you can watch this video below:

How to Join AdSense

In late 2008, Google has tightened up their acceptance policies. Google no longer accept every Dick and Harry, you now must meet the following criteria before you are accepted…

- Your website must be your own top-level domain (www.domain.com and not domain.com/mysite). That means you can’t just sign up with a scrappy or free blogger or free web hosting account and get approved for AdSense just like that.
- Your domain name must have been registered and active for at least 6 months before you apply (This is not a must, try and provide good quality website with unique content and you will be accepted even if your website is less than 6 months old, I have tried it and it works)

- The registration information that you provide during the AdSense registration must match your information

- Your website must contain a substantial amount of original content

Once you meet the above criteria, go to http://adsense.google.com to apply.

How Much can I earn with Google Adsense:

You can earn anything from few dollars to hundreds of thousands a month, it all depends on you and how hard or how smart you work, The commission you receive per click depends on how much advertisers are paying Google for the particular ad. You will earn a share of that amount.  I’ve heard of earnings anywhere from 2 cents to $15 per click, all you need to earn good money is traffic, by traffic I mean the amount of visitors you bring to your website.

Another thing that will determine how much you’ll earn is the kind of ads that run on your website, If your website features keyword phrases like debt free, loans, employment, mortgages, make money, mp3, debt consolidation, sex, etc. then there’s tendency that you will earn more per click since these are highly competitive keywords that are searched for quite a bit on the web.

There are several means of receiving your money, either through checks, direct deposits, western Union money transfer, etc, If you are in Nigeria, you can choose to receive your Google money through bank checks which will be mailed directly to your address, If you are not comfortable with the Nigerian postal system, you can choose to receive your check through DHL for a small fee

I have come across several advertisement placed by fellow Nigerian claiming they can make Nigerians rich through Google . Some of the adverts go this way

  • Make money online while you sleep ….
  • Many Nigerians are making thousands of dollars from e.t.c

The advertisers promises to perform the magic once their special packages (ready-made “Adsense-ready-”, auto-blogging softwares, e.t.c) are purchased. The price ranges from N5,000 to N10,000 (about $40 – $80).
I get amused and angry when I read such claims. Of course I do a quick check on the website of such advertiser . Too many of them have details similar to the following:

  • Web Address – xyz.blogspot.com (free hosting, while earning thousands of dollars per month, I am skeptical!)
  • Site Traffic – XXX (some make the grave mistake of displaying traffic details on their website – less than 1,000 visitors!)
  • Website Popularity – Google PR – Unranked Alexa Rank – x,xxx, xxx (so where are the visitors clicking on the adsense advert to generate the $x,xxx they claim). They must be telling lies

Enough of the report, What is Google Adsense? Is it an Income Earning Opportunity for Online Entreprenuers, Nigerians inclusive?

What is Google Adsense?
Google Adsense is a PPC (pay-per-click) program owned by Google Inc. to use it, you need to open an account with Google online. After that, you will be given a unique code to paste into pages on your website (the steps are quite simple). Once you do that Google will start displaying Adsense adverts on your site.

Can you make income online via Google Adsense Program?
Yes, anyone can use the program, once you register with Google. Whenever a visitor to your site clicks on any of the links displayed by Google Adsense, you earn money! (Hey that means those advertisers are right! Just wait until you finish the article)

What do you require to achieve success with Google Adsense?
Essentially, good traffic is what you need. The more good traffic (not junk traffic) you get to your website or blog, the more money you will make with Google Adsense. Getting good traffic of course requires good content. (This is where a lot of Nigerian Online Entreprenuers are missing the point. And that is what the scammers exploit). If you simply open several blogs and paste articles copied from other websites into those blogs, you will not have good traffic. Most of the visitors to the site will be disappointed and will never return to your site. (That is bad for any online ).

However, beside getting good traffic, there are tips for optimizing the use of Google Adsense on a website or blog. I will write an article on this later.

How long will it take to start earning income from Google Adsense?
You can actually start earning the very first day you join. (Hey that is another proof that their claim is true! I told you to wait until you finish the article do not jump to conclusions) However, how much you earn is another issue. I can honesty tell you that you CANNOT earn $1,000 the first month if you are truly a Newbie Online Entreprenuer (except you are famous like W. Oprah, and you have a lot of fan who adores you). Your earnings might be less than $1 (yes, less than one US dollar).
That is not meant to discourage you from the program, just to prepare your mind for reality. There are webmasters earning over $10,000 per month. (But they did not get there overnight).
There are tips for maximizing Google Adsense income but that is a topic for another post.

Conclusion – Google Adsense is a good income earner that any Nigerian Online Entrepreneur can use. The basic requirement is that your blogs and websites should consist of good and useful articles that help people in some way. (Make your research well before you part with your hard-earned money for a junk “Get Rich Quick” package. A sure success principle is GIVE and you shall be GIVEN. Do not assume that your site visitors are dummies. If you provide junk or stolen content, you will be the loser at the end. See you at the top

The Internet is one of man’s greatest achievements in recent times. It has changed the lives of many individuals. Students now check
their school results online, people post online resume, job application and scholars and students alike use it for research purposes.

For others such as online marketers and traders, it has made them very successful financially.

So the question is, how do you get a cut from the money making powers of the Internet?

From my research, here are my findings on how to make make money online selling information products.

1. Information Marketing

This is the creation of digital products such as e-books, membership websites, audios and videos that all have good information on how to solve a particular problem by an information marketer for the purpose of selling to his targeted audience.

The information marketer also go as far as creating seminars, workshops, webinars and coaching to serve the needs of his audience.

2. Affiliate Marketing

An affiliate marketer is someone who sells other people’s products and gets a commission per products sold. It is said that beginner marketers should start with affiliate marketing simply because they can not create products immediately.

The truth is, to be successful doing affiliate marketing, you need the expert status of an information publisher, meaning you need to have some products of your own for credibility purpose.

As a newbie just starting, the best advise I will give is to start your affiliate marketing with cheaply acquired PLR products and later promote affiliate products so that you get the needed status to make affiliate marketing very successful.

3. Google Marketing

The truth here is Google adsense is part of affiliate marketing because you are paid a cut from the clicks acquired on your website by your visitors. However, I do not encourage anyone who is interested in Google to limit himself by waiting for only Adsense check from Google.

If you want to make money from Google Adsense, you need to create a content website with a hosted on your website so you will have complete control of your virtual estate. Write keyword rich articles and allow people to comment on your posts.

To get more traffic, do blog commenting, and go to online forums to add value so people can visit your blog and click on your ads. On your blog include an opt-in webform to allow website visitors chance to get more updates from you and also give you opportunity to promote products from the back-end of your newsletters.

4. Become A Service Provider

Other ways you can make some money online is to become a service provider. You can provide services like Web hosting by getting a reseller account and start promoting it. Along the line, you can learn how to create simple websites or content management
systems like Word press and offer it as a supplementary service to those who buyhosting service from you for a small extra fee.

You can also provide other freelance service like writing articles for web masters who need more content on their websites for a fee. Just throw up a website and drive traffic to it to get clients interested in your services.

5. Become An E-commerce Payment Merchant

Other ways I know to make money online is through helping people to pay for products online. For instance, in Nigeria, PayPal and Clickbank are not accepted, you can find a way to help people to pay for products using this service.

You can also help people send Western union, pay with Alertpay, Liberty reserve and other e-currency options. Other ways you can operate is to use your own credit card to purchase products for people. Once you have a Domiciliary account, providing any
of these services is simple and you can actually make money online.

There are other , but what we have here are the money making channels I have seen my clients used to make money each month and I’m confident you will make money using the any of the systems.
